Basic oral surgery encompasses removal of teeth (including wisdom teeth) that can no longer be restored.  Related procedures include bone grafts, soft tissue augmentation, and cyst removal.  Majority of those services are performed by a general dentist.  In some cases, your dentist may refer you to the specialist (oral and maxillofacial surgeon) to have certain advanced oral surgery procedures done.
